You can fold mailers and newsletters a number of ways. The most common fold for a flier would be a tri-fold. A newsletter is more typically folded to 5.5″ x 8.5″ or even larger at 8.5″ x 11″. A newsletter usually starts out at 11″ x 17″ before it is folded down but there are other sizes.
In some cases your mail piece will require 2 tabs and in some 3 tabs. Piece width, paper weight and use of staples all make a difference. We always suggest to our clients to design a piece so the opening is on the top and refrain from using staples. This isn’t always possible but should be a priority.
The inkjet printers that are commercially used today bare little resemblance to what you may have in your office. The technology for applying the ink is similar but not much else is. The use of high speed feeders, conveyors, heat lamps, and inline equipment such as tabbing machines, stamping machines and strappers all make for the ability to process your mailers quickly and efficiently.
We provide inserting services for invitation size envelopes, #10 business envelopes, 6″ x 9″ envelope, 9″ x 12″ and larger. We can also provide any other type of inserting you need such as buck slips, business cards, samples and envelopes into envelopes. Pieces being printed for inserting should always be setup so there is enough clearance for easy inserting. Sometimes this can’t be avoided, such as with invitation mailings because of the preset sizes. The goal should be to always design for machine inserting whenever possible. Whether by machine or by hand, we can process your small or large order quickly.
Labeling – you will rarely see labels being used in direct mail anymore. That is because there has been such an advancement in technology over the years with high tech inks, infrared and convection drying, and varying ways of handling that ensure quality addressing.
Pressure sensitive labels are the “sticky” labels most people would use in their own office in their own printers. In the direct mail process when we have pieces that will not accept any type of ink or we want to ensure a high quality bar code and print, we go to labels.
